The TIL contains textile tech equipment and software used for textile design and prototype development. Review the list of available equipment below. If you need training, please follow the steps on the Lab Hours + Training page

The Apparel Production Lab and Wearable Futures Lab will be  open through Friday, 12/6, and the Textile Innovation Lab will be open through Friday, 12/13. All labs will then be closed until the start of Spring semester in January, 2025. 

EQUIPMENT

EPSON SURE COLOR F6200 DYE SUBLIMATION DIGITAL FABRIC PRINTER 

Uses a dye sublimation process, it transfers ink from paper onto polyester or PVA blended fabric/materials ONLY.  Epson prints in a maximum width of 44 inches. and indefinite length. Print a test strip 6 x 44 inch prior to the final print file and use it to calibrate the heat settings for your material.

 INDUSTRIAL HEAT CALENDAR 

This machine can quickly press fabric yardage, be used to apply heat-transfer vinyls, and transfer your digital print design from sublimation paper to polyester materials.

INDUSTRIAL HEAT PRESS 

Heat Press should be set to 350 degrees for 1:20. Heat Press’s degree and time can be adjusted according to manufacturer standards for vinyl transfers.

CALCOMP PATTERN DIGITIZATION TABLET 

The CalComp Roll-Up digitizer is used to digitize physical patterns.  Digitized patterns can be digitall modified, graded into multiple sizes, exported as true-to-scale shapes for pattern engineering and pattern plotting.

ELNA 970 

SEVEN-THREAD AUTOMATED EMBROIDERY MACHINE 

This machine can embroider 7 colors automatically. This machine requires that you set-up your design file with the Artistic Digitizer software, available on the desktop computers in 6461.  Save your prepared artwork file as a JPG file format to a jump drive, and insert it into the ELNA 970 console...

PFAFF 8312 ULTRASONIC WELDING MACHINE

Ultrasonic welding is a modern, innovative and economic alternative and complementary to conventional sewing technology that fuses materials together using ultrasonic vibration, creating a durable seal.  If you are assembling laminates, clothing fabrics with high share of polymeric fiber and/or technical nonwovens, ultrasonic welding using the PFAFF 8312 is a great alternative to conventional needle sewing.  This welder can fuse and cut seams in several different patterns.

CRICUT MAKER MACHINE + DESIGN SPACE 

This machine is an automated cutting machine for paper, stick-on vinyl, iron-on heat transfers, cardstock, poster board, and specific lightweight fabrics. This machine uses the online Cricut Design Space for file setup. (self training).  Bring your own Cricut-brand materials- These can be purchased at craft stores or online.  https://design.cricut.com/

SILHOUETTE CAMEO PRO  4  + SILHOUETTE STUDIO DESIGN SOFTWARE

The Silhouette Cameo 4 is a 24" Wide Vinyl Cutter.  Powered by Silhouette Studio software, the newest, fastest and most powerful desktop cutting machine on the market.  The PRO opens the door to a new world of media, projects, and capabilities. CAMEO 4 PRO is the perfect first vinyl cutting machine for cut vinyl, heat transfer, fabric, acetate, foam, burlap, felt, balsa wood, leather, and more.

JANOME MEMORY CRAFT 6600 EMBROIDERY MACHINE 

This machine does one-color manual freehand embroidery. It contains loads of features created for quilters, including layered fabric feeding. It has 163 built-in stitches, including alphabet/monogramming, automated buttonholes and specialized stitch features.

JANOME 300E EMBROIDERY MACHINE 

This is a single-thread automated embroidery machine that requires design set up using the Artistic Digitizer or digitizer junior software.  It features 100 built-in designs, and includes 2 different hoop sizes.

JANOME FM-725 NEEDLE FELTING MACHINE

The FM-725 is a needle felting machine - it does not sew, but uses barbed needles to mesh fabrics together. The fibers mingle to create new color and texture combinations that simply cannot be achieved with embroidery, applique, or any other kind of needlework.

MACOMBER 4-HARNESS FLOOR LOOM 

Traditional upright weaving loom, for machine for weaving fabrics up to 36” in width. Requires 2 weeks reservation for warp setup and training (signup in TIL)

Traditional folding upright weaving loom, for machine for weaving fabrics up to 24” in width. Requires 2 weeks reservation for warp setup and training (signup in TIL)

WARPING BOARDS + YARN SPOOLERS

The TIL has one 15 YD warping board and one 5 YD warping board. These are used to organize your warp yarns in preparation for setting up your weaving loom.  

There are also two yarn swifts and two ball winders for organizing and spooling your yarns.

M620 AMSCOPE MICROSCOPE 

40X to 2500X magnification for studying a range of specimens including fibers, cells and micro surfaces. 

Monitor and capture photos and videos with the included 1.3 MP digital eyepiece camera. Professional microscopy software for Windows and mac provide tools for image processing, measuring, and more.


PLUGABLE 250X DIGITAL USB MICROSCOPE

250x magnification microscope can be plugged directly into any device's USB ports. Features on screen views of microscopic images.

PFAFF 8303I CONTINUOUS SEAM SEALER (NOW LOCATED IN THE RAPID PROTOTYPING CENTER)

Ultrasonic welding is a modern, innovative and economic alternative and complementary to conventional sewing technology that fuses materials together using ultrasonic vibration, creating a durable seal.  This machine is a hot-air taping machine for welding continuous seams on water-resistant, waterproof and breathable materials. It is ideal for waterproofing zippers, felled seams on footwear, soft goods or outerwear.  It is also useful for adding reflective or other fusible tapes to garments and other soft goods applications.
